Yes. The Free plan includes the core Zotero research agent, Add Context, library search, Save as Note, BYOK/custom models, and 200 monthly credits for official models.
Pro and Max provide more monthly credits and access to recommended official model/provider combinations. OpenAlex, Web Search, and Web Extract tool calls do not consume credits on Pro and Max.
There is no fixed amount. Credit usage depends on the selected model, input context, output length, and current model pricing. Check the Usage page for the exact charge for each request.

BibGenie runs inside your Zotero environment. Chat history and many settings are stored locally. When you use a custom or local model, requests are sent directly to the provider you configure.

Yes. BibGenie supports keyword search, semantic search based on local titles and abstracts, and List Items for browsing candidate papers. After finding papers, you can add PDFs or notes as context for deeper reading.
No. BibGenie searches your Zotero library first by default. When external information is needed, you can enable Web Search to use OpenAlex, Web Search, and Web Extract.
Chat records are stored locally in Zotero's database by default. They are not uploaded to BibGenie's server.
No. BibGenie's metadata review strictly follows a safety-first and read-only model. Cross-checks against multi-source providers (arXiv, Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, DBLP, OpenReview) are completely read-only. BibGenie generates clear visual diff preview cards, and changes are only written to Zotero after you review and explicitly approve them—while preserving sensitive fields like Better BibTeX citation keys.
